Honestly, I only saw Nintendo's "Digital Event" - basically a very long episode of Nintendo Direct. I only voted on games, and actually gave the edge to Sony, without knowing WHY .
Over the years, we've owned a bunch of consoles. For some reason, I actually LIKED Dreamcast. The hardware seemed powerful enough. I could actually BEAT LEVELS in a Sonic game (they finally went 3D), and there were the "2K" sports franchises (I noticed a little more effort than EA Sports trying to cash in on their name and brand alone).
Last generation, I only got a Wii for some reason. I've thought about X360, but it seems too late now. They barely sell the bundles in stores, and how much longer will it get new games?
PlayStation 1 was a glorified CD player in my mind (pitiful, "Minecraft" graphics). PS2 earned some of my respect, but my brothers kept selling them or giving our unit away. Didn't that machine "win" its generation in sales numbers and stick around for years after PS3 released?
Anyway, that's all basically to say that I'd consider almost any game system if the software is decent and fun.
For whatever reason, in the newest generation, I'd find it hard to pick a "winner." I'd say Xbox One is the least attractive system to me. What do they really have as an exclusive beyond "Halo"? Wii U looks fun, but I'm wondering if some of the games will just be like remakes of the past two systems once I get to play them.
For the games category, I mentioned picking Sony. It's not like I won't buy "Super Mario Maker." I'm less sure about "Star Fox Zero," possibly because they want to change the basic controls. SF64 still holds up for me (not graphically, but it's challenging and hard to beat my high score from years ago). I've wondered what's the big deal about "Xenoblade" or "Fire Emblem." I guess "Fire Emblem" has mostly been a handheld game when it comes to the States? This new one is rumored to have same-sex marriage, which really doesn't make sense if it's about historic Japan. But anyway ... "Street Fighter 5" could be neat (PS4 exclusive?). I think of "Star Wars: Battlefront" as more of a PC game. I'm also not sure what will set this new one apart from the previous series. You pretty much shoot everyone else and respawn at "command posts," right? Some stages had vehicles, and then "Hero" mode was fun, but unbalanced (CPU heroes are too hard to kill, even with vehicles, and you can mow down the computer as your team's hero). I think "No Man's Sky" is only on PS4, but I'm not sure if it would actually be fun. They make it sound like a "Metroid" idea (explore other planets), but with tons of actual planets (most "Metroid" games that I've played keep you on one planet, but vary the terrain to make it seem more like multiple worlds).
For whatever reason, virtual reality does almost nothing for me. I guess the point is to be stuck inside the headset, and not paying attention to the rest of the world? XBox One did show off a neat controller, but it practically comes apart (on purpose, to customize each piece). I think only Microsoft announced backwards compatibility. Wii U pretty much SHIPS that way from day one! Then there's all of the Virtual Console library as well. I didn't technically need backwards compatibility on Wii, because I still own my GameCube (probably my most recent "Day One" console purchase).
So, not sure what all of that has to do with "winning" at E3. Nintendo just seems to know me pretty well. I LOVED their "developer stories," because how else would you ever know why you're flying through arches or talking to other "puppets"? Their games haven't really NEEDED "true to life" graphics and blood or cursing. You almost don't think too hard about the game worlds. Sure, mushrooms like to walk, and turtles sing or dance. I'm mainly about Mario (2D games are getting WAY too easy, though), Link, Samus, DK, sports franchises, and maybe the multiplatform games (I haven't even owned a "Guitar Hero" or "Rock Band" game yet to know if they have replay value).
