There's a theory where, if God would show evidence of who He is, more people would believe. The more I've read the Bible, that doesn't sound accurate, like in this passage:
1 Another time Jesus went into the synagogue, and a man with a shriveled hand was there. 2 Some of them were looking for a reason to accuse Jesus, so they watched him closely to see if he would heal him on the Sabbath. 3 Jesus said to the man with the shriveled hand, “Stand up in front of everyone.”
4 Then Jesus asked them, “Which is lawful on the Sabbath: to do good or to do evil, to save life or to kill?” But they remained silent.
5 He looked around at them in anger and, deeply distressed at their stubborn hearts, said to the man, “Stretch out your hand.” He stretched it out, and his hand was completely restored. 6 Then the Pharisees went out and began to plot with the Herodians how they might kill Jesus.
(Mark 3:1-6, NIV)
A group of people already didn't like Him (verse 2). Then, after He does the healing, they want to KILL Him (verse 6)? If you wanted to write a "fictional" story about religion, I'm not sure why you'd say those things about the religious leaders (and have the Hero challenging them?). The best counterargument might be that this was a new religion, and the writers wanted to distinguish it from orthodox Judaism. It's still weird that all it took for the leaders to get mad was to see a miracle on Saturday. Actually, a Jewish person might have to help me. Could Sabbath mean any time between 6 PM on Friday until 6 PM the following day?
There are too many things I could extract from just that one passage. It's always been weird to me how the miracles of Jesus are interpreted literally. In this case. I haven't heard an alternate explanation beyond Him just saying four words. He didn't even touch the man's hand, but there was a physical change to the hand, just from TALKING?!! Then, you can go to Genesis, where a few passages mention God saying a phrase, and physical things happening, but, "Oh, that's allegory for millions of years and a slow process that was purely physical." I know people don't want to look "stupid" by rejecting "evolution." The thing is, I wouldn't see mutation by a virus as a form of "evolution." In the end, the virus became a ... virus. The full scope of evolution (at least my understanding of it) would be to say that a virus turned into an animal, such as a fish (since life began in the ocean). That fish washed up on land, but survived, because it sprouted legs. After many more changes, it decided that life works better when people marry and settle down into families (although the divorce rate is now so high that many people "shack up" or argue against forming a family) - and all of this happened without input from God (or, at best, He just got things started and watched all the chaos from a distance, not knowing the outcome). That's not the way Jesus worked.
So, again, I'm not sure who actually reads my "preaching." It's just important to point things out "logically" and show that there's a pretty big difference between what humans say about God and the life of Jesus.
