: The LT, 1, and 2 all have Wi-Fi. So, you'd
: just need a wireless router or access point
: that's connected to the Internet.
:
: We have a Samsung Galaxy tablet that works
: on W-Fi, so one of the above models would
: work from Wi-Fi on an analog tv then
: correct?
I assume yes, if it's your own Wi-Fi (not "borrowing" from the neighbor, LOL). There's usually a network name and password you have to enter, and then other things get set up automatically.
: I would
: definitely recommend the "n"
: version of wireless if your router supports
: it, since "g" is considered a
: little slow for video.
:
: What exactly is "n" and
: "g"?
:
: Thanks.

I'm trying to think of a way to phrase it and not sound "nerdy." The "g" version came out at least 10 years ago. Some devices, like the Wii video game console, only have the "g" Wi-Fi connection and can't be upgraded. There's only one "radio station" it uses to send and receive data. They say the maximum speed can be over 50 megabits per second, but I've also read how you can kind of divide that by 4 to get a realistic average (maybe 12 megabits per second). That MIGHT be good for DVD quality or analog signals. They usually recommend a faster speed for HD (but it doesn't sound like your setup will use HD).
The "n" version was finalized in 2009. It's different in a few ways. They approved TWO "radio stations." Most people still use the one that was made popular by "g" (and the even older versions before "g" came out). There's a boost in speed, too. On Windows machines that I've seen, it lists the speed as 144 megabits per second. Even if you assume half of that is for special messages (not the actual video signal), you still might be getting a MINIMUM of over 50 megabits per second (which was the maximum for version "g," but it doesn't always go that fast).
Is all of that too confusing? Basically "n" is newer and gives you more speed. With the Roku, I would guess they program it to try and make an "n" connection first, and if it doesn't work, it would try to find a "g" network. Unless your router or modem are really old (from 2000?), it probably has "g" or "n" built-in.
