As a devout and practicing Buddhist, with my practice as my HP, it is against my religious beliefs for me to refer to, pray to, or praise a "god" or recite Judeo/Christian/Muslim prayers. I can use a lot of things, like the Serenity Prayer, if I can leave any god of any kind out of it -- we do not have any dieties and are in fact an atheistic religion. Yet, we are not "unchurched," nor are we "agnostics," and neither are we "anti-theists" like most people who call themselves "atheists" really are. In big cities, AA has Higher Power meetings where only the words Higher Power are used in the Steps, Traditions and elsewhere, to accommodate those of faiths or philosophies that are non-diestic in nature. Unfortunately, I'm not an alcoholic! I'm not against anybody or their beliefs, and I'd like to work OA, but I have problems doing so effectively in a "god" context (and let's not even go to the "him" part.) That's the main reason I'm using this on-line resource: I have literally had to flee well-meaning but un=understanding strangers grabbing my hands and insisting I say Christian (or diestic) prayers! Oh, yes, people do this. I have never been to a meeting where it hasn't happened except on line. It takes the focus off recovery and puts in on me and my religion, which is against the philosophy of OA.
Is there an HP loop or group available here? Thx.
