thought I'd share it. We got married in our dining room on October 14th, 1984. It was a raw, drizzling day - all silvery. We had candles going in the windows. It was just Mum, my sister and her then boyfriend (now hubby), my darling Mother-in-Law, my Dad and Stepmother. We had a sweet 75 year old lady justice of the peace. She read our service - it was short, but so moving - it took about 5 minutes and had us all in tears. It was a special day. To make things more interesting, I was sick as a dog - had a fever of 103 and the beginnings of bronchitis. But I only remember how silver and golden the day was. At the time I didn't know my father all that well - he and Mum had been divorced since I was three years old, so it was mostly birthdays and holidays and an occasional summer vacation that we got to spend time together. He had to wait for my stepmother to arrive and was so nervous being there alone...he paced up and down the sidewalk until she arrived. It was the first time he and Mum and my stepmother were at a family event together. It was magical. Everyone got along so well - Mum and my stepmother were both RNs, so they always had a lot in common, and Dad and my MIL had so much fun talking together, and started a friendship that day that continued till the day Dad died. From that day on my Dad and my hubby became such close friends - like father and son. I got to spend so much quality time with my Dad from that point forward - it was a turning point in all our lives - leading to wonderful holidays with all of us together, and many lovely days spent together... So this picture represents the starting point of so much good in my life. We look fairly solemn, but then it had been a long, emotional day. |
