Years ago April and I planned to run a magazine. The doll mags at the time were rather lacklustre. At one point we resolved that we would do it by June 2006.
LOL right?
You’ll be surprised to hear we got bored with the idea and didn’t do it
Anyway various other things happened in our lives and April decided she’d like a nice quiet doll board to visit. One where all members would have equal say in its growth and development. Something a little more communal than most boards.
Just before the Sept 2006 Con April opened a board, it was named something with the word serenity in it … or something. She hadn’t launched it but had spoken a lot to her good friend Shelly about it. Shelly informed her that there was a brand of feminine hygiene products with a similar name. The board promptly closed.
A few weeks later RoR opened.
I visited a little. I’d tried posting at ZoZ a few times following the con, but found things a little big there for me. I’d never be able to keep up there lol. And lets not start on DoA … I can’t follow there either. LOL they are both too large for my poor little brain.
So I lurked round RoR posting sometimes but not really knowing anyone. I was probably a mod from day one, I’m not sure. April trusts me and I her and we share a lot of things.
Then one day April went ‘non-doll’ and she asked me to look after RoR for her. So I came more often, trying to make sure I logged in daily so that I could help anyone that needed help.
April and I got to talking one day about our magazine. And she told me she felt that RoR was the fulfilment of our commitment to write one. I’d made a couple of covers for fun and suggested to her the idea of having guest editors, that would chose a cover and write some content and submit it and we’d put it up.
This I felt would help expand the communal feel here, encourage everyone to feel a little more like an ‘owner’ or at least participant in the workings of the board.
People had always submitted pics for covers, and JillWV has done an amazing job taking those pics and organising covers and interviews etc over the years. (Newer members can read all the ‘back issues’ via the link below this month’s cover.)
So then I did a couple of covers
and expected to hand over to the next person who would do some etc. And I’ve been doing them a little while now, but I’m happy to hand over to anyone at any time.
RoR is a special place. I do love the stories best and it’s great to come here and read them and have the opportunity to get to know the writers and chat to people about their stories a little.
It’s very inspiring, and such a joy to be able to have a quiet moment to sit back and have some quiet time out of what can often be very chaotic days.
Two people have said to me lately that RoR is my board, but it’s totally not. I only work here. And will only work here as long as I’m wanted. The board belongs to all the lurkers, and posters, and above all, the resins!
Please feel free to post and tell us why you first came here and what you like about the board.
