Rowan sounds like she was recently sand papered >>

There's a thin line between being brittle and just being negative. Is she that frightened of her feelings?

Jake was polite and at ease and maybe it made Rowan uncomfortable, but will she realize that he will be working and not able to devote all his attention to her in the evening?

I hope Jake is a patient man. Rowan is a girl who needs a lot of attention, despite her bravado.

I hope she can relax and talk to other people in the pub, and maybe have a nice conversation with Jake in between.
