She hasn't heard anything from Stone in a long time - about 6 months - and yet he still has things are her house, and hasn't ever really ended things. That can hang over someone for a long time. And it's not even that you hope they'll come back - it's more that you get this sick feeling in your stomach, because you don't know what to expect - or you expect something bad. In any case, a letter like this, out of the blue, can stir up lots of emotion - and not just with Jeni!
