You touch also on what is for me, a very big part of the fun of a BJD...the friendships made via them.
I have always collected dolls, but it is only through the BJD that I have made true friendships that were sparked from a shared doll love initially....but that might not be a fair comparison because I got internet access at around about the same time that I got into BJD's
Who knows what might have happened if I had had internet access when I was mainly collecting Sasha, Sindy and German artist dolls-to name but a few 
And no I am not sorry I asked, I am naturally nosey and I love to chat 
And so you put them in family groups or couples early on.....did you know when you first got Plum that she would not be alone?
