When I was an active whitewater paddler repacking a throw bag was a time-consuming pain, and it was a real clusterfup when a bunch of yahoos would all hit a rapid at the same time during the long-lamented RI Whitewater Championships. Yeah, you can fill the bag with water but distance and accuracy suffer. It looks like the folks at Liquid Logic have invented a better mouse trap. Not perfect, but better.
Looks like a nice design. When I first started whitewater paddling about 10 years ago (yes – I’m a relative newbie) I can remember going on trips where the leader would set up a safety at the bottom of a rapid with a throw bag. I haven't seen anyone do that in quite a while. No one practices throwing, no one practices getting rescued. Maybe it's just a different mentality now. Everyone is in kayaks and the expectation is that you have a roll.
Maybe we'll do some throw bag practice on the Deerfield next weekend.
