So last year's enrollment in the RICKA WW Class was pretty low. I'd like to bump that up this year, get some more people exposed to ww and hopefully grow our currently tiny ww group.
After informally speaking with people over the last few months, I think one of the bigger issues contributing to low enrollment is that a lot of the people that are otherwise interested in the class, don't have their own ww boats and gear. Since the club doesn't have any of its own boats to lend out, I'm turning to you guys.
I have 1 extra full set up (boat, skirt, paddle) that I will be offering to lend out for this year's class. If anyone else would be willing lend out some gear for the weekend of the class, please let me know. My email should be included above. Also, I am planning to be at the class, helping out, both days. I will personally keep an eye on all gear and make sure it all gets returned to its rightful owner.
The class will probably be a weekend in late June. I'll give an update one the date is locked down. We would preferably be looking for a full set up of a ww kayak, skirt, and paddle. Helmets and PFD's would be a nice bonus, but I think those are easy enough to scrounge up from others if need be.
Please let me know if you can help out with this. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me. I'd be happy to discuss any thoughts, suggestions or concerns that you might have.
If anyone reading this is interested in taking the class, just keep an eye out for a formal announcement. I'll post here and an annoucement should be in the Paddler once all the details are finalized.
Hey Andy, I have an extra ww boat with skirt, paddle and life jacket. The only catch is that I have to come along allso. The kayak is a corsica. I'm 5'10" 200lbs on a good day, and fit in it. Are you going to be paddling on the Deerfield, and if so, are there plans on staying at a campground Saturday? Either way I'll be there.
Thanks Earl. I'll let you know if we could use your boat. I have to wait and see how many people sign up and how many need boats. Could turn out that we only need a couple or a whole bunch.
The class is up on the Deerfield. We usually stay in the section below the Gap. I am planning on camping at Country Aire on Saturday night, not sure what anyone else's plan is.
I might be one of those possible students you mention. I have an interest in pursuing whitewater, have done the flat for two seasons now, but, am overwhelmed on what is needed for equipment and outer wear. Thought I might pursue a Zoar outdoor class to get ball rolling.
