Its been over a month, but I finally got out to paddle last Saturday on the Salmon River in central CT. Four paddlers three OC1s, one kayak.
The Salmon is a pretty river surrounded by steep hills covered in hemlock trees. With snowmelt and temps in the 40s, small waterfalls ran down the hills into the river. Icicles some 3 to 4 feet long - hung from trees and rocks along the bank. The combination of snow in the woods and warm temps produced a fog that lasted through most of the trip.
We put-in around 10:30 and worked out way down some easy class II rapids lots of rocks, holes and eddies to play in. About 1:30, we arrived at the biggest feature on the river - an old broken dam producing a six-foot drop in series of three ledges. The easiest route is through a chute that cuts through the dam on the far right.

By 2:30, we realized that we had better get going or we would run out of light. We still had 5 miles of quickwater to cover to get to the take-out. With the fast moving current it was a pleasant paddle even in a WW boat. We pulled into the take-out around 4:00. A great day.
Hope everyone has a happy New Year. Look forward to paddling with you soon.
