Very true,There are too many choices out there. You would find that the RPM is a great boat but it is a retro boat that people used to paddle. The new boats have planing hulls and are much shorter. They are rodeo boats for the person who puts out the effort.
I would try an entry level boat such as the RPM and see if you like it- then you can trade up. Get friendly with a local shop and ask questions. They have used boats which are usually priced at about 1/2 the price of new ones.
Try Ocean State Adventures, Osprey Sea Kayak, Great Canadian or Zoar Outdoors in Mass or the outfitters in Collinsville, Ct. Their advice is free and most of them do not put a lot of pressure on you to buy. Bill
