Hope everyone in the RI paddle community is doing well. I wanted to pass along an alert that's been posted about a very significant strainer on the lower west that proved fatal last week. The following was posted on both AW and npmb.com
It sounds like the location of this strainer is in the main channel (left side of the island/split) shortly after the typical put-in for the lower west just after the confluence with Ball Mtn Brook.
Have fun and be safe this weekend. Hope to see some of you on the river!
Warning Warning Warning Warning
Lower run below Jamaica State Park!!!!!
Extreme danger on the West river in Jamaica Vermont. There is a strainer just below the split in the river after you pass the confluence of Ball Mountain Brook. It has clamed the life of an inexperienced kayaker. It is not visible at higher water levels and at release levels it hopefully will be seen. It is across 3/4 of the river. Please pass this along to everyone you can as this is a non avoidable strainer.
