One could assume that the dismal ratings of Z103.5 have resulted in lower billing in Toronto. Maybe he wants to sell 1380 & use the cash to invest in his other properties? One could speculate that the absence of a new morning show on 103.5 may be about cash flow. There certainly isn't a shortage of folks out there looking for work. Energy in Winnipeg just came on the air & likely is a draw on cash flow (I'd assume it's 1-2 years till a station gets profitable)
AM Radio is still a viable medium, yet for the most part the viable part of AM is in the 3 digit freq range (900 AM and under). AM stations that flourish are monsters with big signals that boom through the sky. I'm sure there are examples but I can't think of a really successful AM station that's high up on the band. Most of those stations end up as ethnic stations in major cities or just get turned off or go to FM.
Or maybe he'll follow the path of CIAO 530. It's go to be making money because it's been around for a long time. I worked there while I was in high school.
