SOWNY is often called the South Ontario Obituary Board because of the constant talk of the death of former radio guys or musicians. Indeed.
In the last 2 months we've witness the anniversary of the death of Cobain, Notorious BIG & today the death of MCA from Beastie Boys. Any person with some knowledge of music knows these 3 names represent music in the last 20 years. The Beastie Boys are one of the most influential & innovative groups in music history. They are without question FAR more influential than Mr Cobain was.
And yet Cobain & BIG didn't merit a mention & MCA's death landed 2 posts.
If you d00ds are the movers & shakers of radio that make the decisions, no wonder people under 35 are fleeing FM radio.
This probably won't get much airplay on FM stations today, but here is the original 12" EP from The Beastie Boys. Heard it first on 1985 on CFNY. Side Note for the 5 rap fans on here: Interview on Q on CBC a while back about Def Jam. When they introduced rap music to the market, black radio & black clubs wouldn't touch it. It was the punk rock clubs that embraced rap.
