Gotta rant,because it's down to this: A textbook example of how to ruin a sucessful(and storied)small-market operation;it's new owner seemingly driven to force the heritage station into the grave,apparently completely indifferent to what CKPC 1380 has meant to it's city of licence. Evanov,by spending mininmal-bucks,has apparently by design,let 1380 drop off local radar,barely moving BBMs meters or a rapidlly dwindling listenership since taking over nearly three years ago. CKPC FM on the other hand,is his cash cow,with AM an "oh yeah,them" afterthought.
Following a dull-as-dirt format launch,and despite valiant efforts to 'put on a happy face' by the few remaining live jocks and newsies,1380 poobahs pissed away a potentiallly large and loyal audience, by doing next to nothing,unless mandated to by corporate beancounters,resulting in a sadly underfunded and short lived newswheel/country music format.Now,the corporations koolaid drinking goons intend to bury what remains of the afternoon and drive time numbers,and bleat about beating up on the local God-Squad peashooter station. Really? That David and Goliath thang seem so appropos right now.
Bet is on the mom,pop and baby jebuzz station to this battle, because gee whiz, guess what,they continue to serve their audience what that audience wants and expects to hear.CKPC AM seemingly doesnt cater to listeners anymore,it's merely another content provider,listeners be damned.
Evanov, please sell it off,or at least give this Brantford institution a chance to go down doing what it does best: Being local.It doesn't include infomercials,sold religious blocks,and watered down low rent versions of sucessful formats. It's about Brantford.
