John Hickman, former Area Secretary, has sent the following response to the Fixture List thread: Date clashes with other Areas Your Area Secretaries since the PPSA/PPORA were formed in the 1960s have liaised every year with the adjacent Areas over dates to try and avoid clashes. This is started in May each year prior to forwarding proposed dates to your Secretaries before the secretaries’ Area meeting when dates are hopefully agreed. There is little point in firing blanks at this time of the year. This is very hurtful to Nicky who looks after the Areas interests as best she can, as I did previously. Area Race Planning During my time as Area Secretary only two Secretaries did not have penalties in the Mens Open races. Since then meetings are more flexible as to the type of races they can have. A number of meetings have no idea how to frame a balanced programme of races. The Racing Review group proposed Area Race Planning Committees, which the South East have done and made good progress. I would suggest that if supporters, owners or riders have ideas over race planning that they submit them to Nicky who can take them to the Race Planning Committee. Again “firing blanks” at this time of the year when programmes are fixed is a waste of time. Take action in April/May. The race planning committee is doing a good job getting the type of races right for the Area and the horses in the Area. They and Nicky need thanking for what they are doing for the good of the Area. Their decisions should be mandatory.
