Why do owners not fancy running horses at godstone? Undulating, too sharp, on the turn, a bit of a khazi? You will struggle to find better ground than they had today and still a serious dearth of runners. Cant be that bad if Mr Tindall lets his useful osses take part surely...

You wouldn't have found better ground or fences anywhere in the country than yesterday. Absolutely first class track maintenance. Personally I think it is a cracking track, it doesn't suit every type of horse, and you need something that is well balanced and travels, but it works, and works well. That said I have had alot of success there so the more the others stay away the better for me!The major problem I have is that Mr Pearce has reached the same conclusion!

Congratulations to all concerned at Godstone. Good finishes and ground that wont be bettered in the SE this season. Well done to all our visitors who all came from knowledgeable and respected yards.Owners from the SE who winge about Godstone, for what ever reason, miss out on what more experienced people than me (some of them professional)already regard as a good course. Because of the undulations and layout races are always run at a steadier pace which is less damaging for the horses. Of course I accept that it does not suit all horses but surely there must be more than the comparative few entered yesterday. The answer is there is nothing wrong with Godstone, quite the reverse. Let those who already grasp this simple fact benefit while others keep their horses in the stable where they will not win many races.

I bumped into a couple of people who were new(ish) to pointing and apart from the small fields for the opens, they found it a pleasant and fun day, and enjoyed the four more competitive races. Presumably the horses carried out into the horsebox park in the last were none the worse?
