Is this the slowest start to a pointing season ever? At this cancellation rate we will still be trying to fit meetings in in July!!!!!

So far this season the UK has lost 20 out of 36 scheduled meetings - including five rearranged fixtures that didn't happen. The South Devon Hunts Club tried three times over New Year, while the Harkaway has been twice postponed and the weather looks bad for their third try at Chaddesley Corbett next weekend. Ten meetings have been lost to frost, three to waterlogging and seven, all this weekend, to snow. As if this wasn't enough, two meetings planned in March and April in West Wales have had to be rearranged thanks to bovine TB. Mud moaners notwithstanding, it makes you realise how lucky we were to have that one-day window in the weather when Detling was run...

Let's start in October in future like the Irish! Can have loads of meetings on decent ground then have a break over Christmas when the crap weather sets in!

in 1975 (long before most of todays jocks were more than a twinkle in their parents eyes) the saeson in the South-East didnt get going until Monday March 31st at Midhurst. The season was only 8 meetings long - every week to the end of May. Leading horse was current steward Angela Ellis fathers Newcastle who still managed to win 5 races plus a second. Leading point scorer for the men was a gentleman who rode at this years Detling meeting - can you guess which rider has been going for that long?

The jockey has to be the remarkable David Evatt and my father was secretary of the Cowdray P2P at that time! Hope you are all looking forward to Charing!
