Our annual cricketing jamboree is fast approaching. As Captain I am gutted that I am unable to attend, given that the fixture clashes with the Memorial of Jeffery Peate.
I have talked to Stu and he will take over the Captain's role (most would say that he did that bit anyway…), and I have also talked to V-J (Alex Vaughan Jones) who is hosting Captain. He has set things up as below:
"The plan for the cricket is to meet at midday at the Three Horseshoes in Warham (NR23 1NL for sat-navvers) - M11, A11 past Newmarket then aim for Brandon, Swaffham then Fakenham on the A1065ý, then its roughly 9 miles due north from there. Mobile reception isn't great in Warham so tell them not to rely on me too heavily for directions if they get lost!
I will be there from midday, there's loads of outdoor space and they do a good hearty lunch (pies very recommended). The match will start at 2pm… ish. Obviously everyone is welcome to stay, I will lay on enough barbecued food in the evening, just let me know roughly how many you're expecting, and please encourage them to bring booze!"
The SE Team (please let me know if anyone has to drop out last minute) is:
Pete Bull
Dan Dennis
Nick Pearce
Stuart Robbo (07768 625255)
Matt Braxton
Will Hickman
Kiff Thompson
Paul Blagg
Jody Sole
Ben Manning
Ed Grissell
Tom Cannon
Traveling support includes Kev, Russell Norman and our pair of umpire's Recce and Dave Piele. Any others who would like to go up will be very welcome and the more support the team have the better the chance we actually have to retain our trophy.
I think some folk may be going racing at Newmarket on Friday (it's July Cup day) and making plans to crash out somewhere in Newmarket town.
I would suggest that others car share with other travelling members and share the journey up there (if you want any of the teams mobile numbers e-mail me).
Beware the wounded animal, I think they were shocked and hurt by the style of our win last year, and this year we are cruelly robbed by the loss of 2008 Star Players David Rose (metatarsal fracture), and Ben Bentley (AWOL in Lanzarote). The East Anglians have been having regular net practice, but I am not overly concerned having had reports of 2009 potential star act, Matt Braxton’s form this Summer. I am also told that Kiff Thompson does more than a passing impression of Freddie Flintoff, although we hope that extends Pedalo antics…
Final thing to emphasise is that the East Anglian hospitality is very strong, if you are not up to much at the weekend, do go up – it is great fun, they make us very welcome and you will have somewhere to stay, even if it may not be an actual bed, in the strict definition of the word!
Bring it home lads!!
