Let's not forget that up until Easter, the season was looking pretty rosy in the south-east: more runners than in recent years, young riders getting chances on competitive horses, seemingly more people in some scale on the owning front.
Problems only came when the ground dried up, and the issue to consider is that whilst nice weather later in the season may bring in crowds, especially for picnics etc, and boost the promoting hunt finances, are these meetings helping to promote the sport in the long run? I would say not - presuming non-regular racegoers will not realise that the racing is a better spectacle earlier in the year.
