I believe the only way our sport will avoid some of the debarcles we have all witnessed this season is to have ptp centres ie tracks which are used 5-6 times a season and are run as a centre, properly managed and watered etc, and all the hunts/clubs that use the facilities pull together to make the course a success rather than just their individual meetings.
We are travelling to the new course at Whitfield on Sunday, which looks fantastic on the website - www.graftonwood.co.uk - and with the work they have done I would see somewhere like this take off and probably have 2-3 if not more meetings next year. We went to Garthorpe last weekend where they have regular meetings, they had fresh ground and watering facilities, the place looked superb and had some good racing - we would certainly look to support them again on 24th, despite the journey.
If Tweseldown could get a watering sytem in place it too would be an ideal centre with all the facilities.
Sadly it would mean the demise of some of our favourite tracks perhaps but if it meant reliable, safe ground to run our horses on throughout the season it would be worth the sacrifice I think. Then the crowds would build again and the sport would move in the right direction and hopefully would please more people more of the time.
This is the way forward in MY OPINION.
