Many years ago the concept was called Adjacent Hunts and the maidens were usually restricted in that manner. However, adjacent meant what it said and the number varied from hunt to hunt. The East Kent, for example, has very few adjacent hunts. The rules were changed, therefore, to refer to confined hunts which usually means a number of relatively local hunts which will include, but not be limited to, all the adjacent hunts. the name still does what it says on the tin since the relevant race is confined to horses from the listed hunts.
