Message from Colin Squance:
Anyone who was able to visit the new Parham course on Saturday March 8th would have had to have been impressed with the work that had been put in to provide those present with an insight into how the new left-handed course will look for the first Meeting on Saturday 21st March 2009.
An uphill start from what was previously beyond the third fence and a similar finish to where the second fence stood will prove testing and see a number of races won in the last 100 yards.
Six of the fences were in situ, the other two will be positioned as before, out in the country where the gliders land, the open ditch remaining in its original location. The tents, paddock, bookies and trade stands will now be on the outside of the course adjoining the hill, which incidentally has been cleared of brambles etc to provide an excellent viewing point. There are also plans to further improve the course in terms of drainage and level going over the next two years.
All who have a soft spot for Parham will be delighted that we shall be able to continue racing at this beautiful course and in this respect our thanks must go in particular to Jamie Hawksfield for his vision, energy and enthusiasm for making it possible.
