We would have loved to have supported Folkestone today (although now it has been abandoned) and I love to support the course where I have had some amazing slices of luck. However, there are two factors you must recognise:
a) not everyone likes the ground - it is soft in the extreme and not that many horses actually run to the merit on it
b) with the window for qualifying for the Foxhunters rapidly closing, the professional trainers are desperately trying to get their horses qualified - why would we want to take on the likes of Bob Hall (currently rated 141 - last run in the National).
Some people say you should never be frightened of one horse, and I am a believer in that, but when you look at the entries and if on your perception of who might run you believ your best position is 4th or 5th, then I can't see the point in subjecting a horse to a hard race when you can wait and run with a squeak in a point to point a week or two later.
It is difficult and you can never guess these things 100% but once the Foxhunters window closes I think you should see an improvement in competitiveness with these races.
