FONTWELL PARK RACECOURSE
THE FULLERS LONDON PRIDE ‘FOXHUNTERS TRIAL’ HUNTER CHASE
(for THE WHITELAW CHALLENGE CUP)
SUNDAY 22nd FEBRUARY 2009
Fontwell Park Racecourse are pleased to announce that the Fullers London Pride ‘Foxhunters Trial’ Hunter Chase will be worth £8,000 this year. The race, run over 3miles 2 ½ furlongs for five year olds and upwards, has traditionally been a trial for the Christies Foxhunters at the Cheltenham Festival.
In addition the Whitelaw Challenge Cup has been reinstated for the winner of the race this year. The Whitelaw Challenge Cup was historically associated with this race until it lapsed over the last few years. Horses such as Earthmover and Gunner Welburn have their names on this prestigious trophy and it is hoped equally good horses will do so in the future.
The British Horseracing Authority have also modified the relevant rules and orders to allow horses trained and qualified in Ireland to run in this race for the first time this year. So it should be a high quality renewal with some real clues for Cheltenham in March.
The race forms part of a high quality ‘Countryside Day’ card including the Grade 2 National Spirit Hurdle won in previous years by the likes My Way De Solzen and Baracouda.
For further information on the race please contact Edward Arkell at Fontwell Racecourse on 07977 587 713 or earkell@fontwellpark.co.uk
