I have been lucky enough to have been involved in point-to-pointing either as owner or rider for nearly twenty years and remain as enthusiastic as ever about the sport.
This season I have been very fortunate to have had a horse with one of our areas Champion Jockeys and have had an enormous amount of pleasure being involved with such a competitive, fun and friendly yard. However the purpose of this posting is to acknowledge Catherine, Heather’s “head lass” (and only lass), for the time and effort she has put in to the care of all the horses in the yard.
Catherine rides the horses (except the three Tony rides each morning!!??) day in day out with such enthusiasm, come rain or shine, good days or bad days, dedicates most, if not all of her time, to the well-being of the horses, and spends hours preparing the horses for race days, in the hope that maybe someone, who understands how much time and skill goes into presenting a horse in the paddock in such top condition, might acknowledge this, and award her horse, Best Turned Out. Lads and Lasses similar to Catherine go unmentioned so much of the time and I think sometimes they are forgotten, BUT NOT by me.
This season Catherine has won 16 BEST TURNED OUT awards with 6 different horses in at least 5 different point-to-point areas. I find this an incredible achievement, so incredible to someone with my grooming & plaiting ability that I felt it deserved a mention on here.
This posting is also tinged with sadness for me, for after 3 seasons with Heather, Catherine (Shirley) is leaving at the end of the month, to pastures new and non-equine, and I would like to take this opportunity to personally thank her so much for the fun we have had since my involvement with Foxbury Racing and to wish her well in all she does in the future. Just think how much you will miss the Cherry Brandy!!
