Keiichi,
The law states that it is now illegal to smoke in any ENCLOSED public space, enclosed means any area or building that has four walls.
You may smoke in a building that is partially enclosed i.e. THREE WALLS. or 50% open to the outside air and personally I would exert my right to do so if challenged, as a visitor you may feel that it is better not to challenge this if you are unsure.
You are allowed to smoke ANYWHERE THAT IS NOT ENCLOSED. i.e OUTSIDE. Although many places are cordoning off 'smoking areas' outside in the fresh air, again as a visitor you may feel that it is better not to challenge this but you are allowed in theory to smoke anywhere OUTSIDE e.g. parks, streets, pavement cafes, pub gardens, etc.
It is worth checking with your hotel, as they may allow smoking in some rooms. This is getting more rare so you need to make sure first.
Specialist tobacconists are an exception, in that you may smoke in them as long as you have bought a sample from them to try there and then within the premises. Again you need to check with them at the time of your visit.
Otherwise the simple rule is that you can smoke out of doors and not indoors.
Hope this helps, enjoy your visit to this once free land and feel free to contact The Pipe Club of London while you are here.
