The Everly Brothers were already accepted by C&W fans since they had been performing with their Dad, a folk and country singer, since they were kids. They were friends with Chet Atkins who helped them a bit. Keep in mind also, Archie Bleyer who owned Cadence Records was a known factor to the public since he was part of the Arthur Godfrey radio and TV shows and he had track record already since the Chordettes were on Cadence. His considerable clout within the biz no doubt could influence programmers and DJ's.
Actually, back then Country artists were readily accepted by Top 40 stations. Johnny Cash, Marty Robbins, Jim Reeves, Marvin Rainwater, Carl Perkins as examples. Elvis and Bill Haley both started as C&W artists.
As for Jerry Lee, Sam Phillips is all you need to know!
