Re: #1 song in Chicago this week in 1967.
Regional hits were seldom or never played on local oldies stations. In NYC, Darling Take Me Back by Lenny Welch was a huge hit. Outside of local WMCA DJ, Jack Spector, who loved Welch, I never heard it as an oldie after 1966 or so. I've been living in the AlbaNY area where the Knickerbockers had all sorts of huge regional hits which never hit the oldies stations.
Where has this record been? Is it the best kept secret in the Chicago music world?
I have never heard of the Cryan' Shames "It Could Be We're In Love".
It only reached #85 on the Billboard Hot 100 and #70 in Cashbox, which could be why I never heard of it, but where has it been since then? It could be because I was also in the Army in Washington D.C. the fall of '67 and didn't have much time for radio.
Of all the Oldies stations that I've worked at or even listened to and all of the record shows that I've been to in Indiana and Ohio over the years, I've never heard or seen this record.
It is a nice record though. Kind of has that Cowsills sound.
