I also liked his versions of Midnight Special, Muleskinner Blues and Don't You Rock Me Daddy-o.
Of all things, I thought of him while taking the garbage to the curb this morning while still half asleep. He had quite a career in the UK and in America. He was big north of the the border as we were largely of British background 50 years ago.
I see he died in 2002 and was dubbed the king of skiffle. He did some interesting tunes and had quite an influence on future performers in the UK such as the Quarrymen and many others.
You had to take the British humour in style but some of my favorites were "Rock Island Line" "Does your chewing gum lose it's flavour" and "My old man's a dustman" A dustman in England collected garbage!
