Your observations are interesting for the sake of your own impact. So it is for the rest of us at our own generational perspective.
We all love what we engendered at a tender age but from a birds eye view of art and culture there is a more sobering distillation.
My time period was a mere 10 to 12 years earlier and I have yet to hear even one of the songs you have listed (I did hear Ruby Tuesday by the Rolling Stones).
Thank you for sharing your memories and for evoking in our minds what constitutes a truly memorable version of a song. It is a question we search in common but can only answer privately.
1968 was (to me, at 15) one of the most interesting and diverse years for music, and it has not diminished in its fascination. Here are some lesser known songs that still take me back to that intriguing soundtrack:
October Country - October Country
Sanctuary -Yankee Dollar
Reach Out - Merrilee Rush
Ruby Tuesday - Rotary Connection
Hurry Up Sundown - Balloon Farm
Your Heart Is Free Just Like the Wind - The Apple
The Yard Went On Forever - Richard Harris
The Other Side (LP cut) - Tiny Tim
Through With You (LP cut) - Lemon Pipers
San Francisco Girls - fever tree
The Days of Pearlie Spencer - David McWilliams
2+2=? - Bob Seger System
You Haven't Seen My Love - The Ones
Can I Carry Your Balloon - Swampseeds
Thanks to You Tube for a few recent discoveries!
