For what it is worth, I have always been a big Ricky Nelson fan. I saw him perform at Knott’s Berry Farm in Buena Park, California in 1974. It was very similar to what was portrayed in "Garden Party". After waiting more than an hour in line, some people started to leave after fifteen minutes. I could see why as Ricky Nelson was very detached from the audience and appeared to be introspective and self-absorbed. Just like in "Garden Party", the Stone Canyon band was the complete antitheses of what peopled expected during the entire performance. "Honky Tonk Women (1971)" was the only song I recognized from his performance and is the only one I remember. Understand that later concerts were more crowd-pleasing like the one Dan saw.
