Dear Catherine James, I wonder if your father met my father. Henry James Matthews, known as Jim Matthews. He was at the school at the same time under the same head master. Jim celebrated his 95th birthday on the 16th of April 2009. He was in the OTC under Captain Vasey, Went to Salisbury Plain for war games with the regular army and other OTC's. The shooting butts and the parade ground were a regular part of his school life. This served him well during the war. He became an Armament Sergeant Major in the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers (REME), serving with the 3rd Royal Tank Regiment in India. He played rugby for the school and he has a picture of the 1930 - 31 team. What is your father's name?
Jim's wife died last year and lives in his own home in Surrey with the assistance of carers. Vision poor and so cannot use the internet. Jim would be very happy to share memories.
