Recently I discovered that my grandfather, Major Thomas Bernard WALL, had been employed as Physical Training and Games Master at the School from September 1932 until August 1933.
He had been a young Captain in the Royal Fusiliers during WW1, serving in France and Flanders between August 1914 – September 1916. Four times wounded, he was repatriated to England where he eventually became Supervising Officer for physical and bayonet training at Aldershot, training troops heading for the front.
Following the war, he spent time with his regiment in India, as Superintendant of Physical Training, Northern Command, Poona, before resigning his commission in 1925.
Sadly, little information has come down to the family, and no photo of him exists. I am hoping to locate a copy of The Leopard for 1932-33 to see if there was mention of him, or perhaps, a photo.
I was recently contacted by Philip Winter, who was a pupil aged 15/16 at the time. He remembered Major Wall, and was able to pass on some wonderful memories of my grandfather, which I greatly appreciate.
Any information you may be able to offer would be very gratefully received.
