Hello John
I was at school a little later than you, 47-51, but got to know John and Taffy very well at Tonbridge RFC in the early 50s. John has died and I haven't heard anything of Taffy since we both stopped playing rugby.
John had an Austin 7 (or some such) which he used to get us to matches and his father used to calculate the mileage and give him just enough petrol money for the round trip. Needless to say sometimes we obviously deviated from his father's route as the journey was finished on foot. John worked in the family business, County Wireless in Monson Road, now no longer in existence. We both began our golfing together at TWGC in the early 60s.
Taffy lectured at London University and I lost touch with him in the late 60s. When draught Guinness first came to TW at the Mount Ephraim Hotel we both made a determined effort to get the "taste" and spent every Sunday evening for about a year working on a project which turned out to be a failure
