I've never belonged to a union, so I've never had to deal with anything like this. I do film work, but since NC is a right to work state, it means that you don't necessarily have to be in a union to work on films (though I think many would agree with me, and maybe rightfully so, that those in the union do get the better jobs. Right now though, I'm happy being able to get the experience I've gotten but always looking for more!)
I am semi-familiar with the terms of the writers strike, what they were looking for, and who they were striking against, but I'd love it if anyone could please enlighten me more about SAG. I know that the reports say "their contracts are up soon", I guess my question is... contracts with who? Is this a conflict over raising wages like scale, money from dvd/internet sales, or something totally different? Any words of wisdom would be greatly appreciated - thanks!
