Is there any way to make an NPC say something without using a textbox?

Basically make your own textbox from scratch? Like for instance, say:
NPCsays(ID#,I like cheese!,position#,shrink#,textcolor#,bordercolor#,backdrop#,song#,show,translucent,restoreBAM)

After the ID #, you'd have what you wanted the NPC to say (in this example, the NPC says 'I like cheese'), and then all of the other textbox stuff.
Everything would default to their defaults if not specified.
Sort of like that? :)
