Re: agates of course
Well, Ive been watching the river bank across from Dabney state park. There is no river access from the other side so you need a boat of some sort to get across. Well, I took my fishing kayak down there today and paddled across the river and looked for rocks. I had high expectations for that gravel bar and I was not disappointed. I came away with about 20 agates, some smaller pieces of jasper, one which has some opal in it I think. All in all a good day. One of the agates is probably some quartz and its pert near tennis ball size, and I got one carnelian that is about golf ball size. I will bring them all to the next meeting. The Sandy river is still dropping but it is doing an interesting fluctuation every afternoon where it rises 3-4 inches and then drops back down overnight. The river gauge is where the bull run river runs into the Sandy. So that might have something to do with it. Anyway, the rain is supposed to bring the river up about a half a foot this weekend, so it will help to wash some of the mud off the gravel bars and expose more rocks. Leave a message if you want to go with. My house is about ten blocks from where the meetings are held so its not too difficult to find. Hope to see ya soon. Yer pal brian
