Posted by Dan WHAT TO USE? WHAT ABOUT to use something; Powerful, Cheap, Easy to get, Easy to prepare and Easy to use? WHAT ABOUT to use something what hospitals, medical and dental offices are already using and CDC (Center for Disease Control and Prevention) recommend for disinfections WHAT ABOUT to elevate safety of Nail Care to the level of safety we expect in the hospitals, medical and dental offices? WHAT ABOUT to use HOUSEHOLD BLEACH? II. Easy to get: You can buy it almost everywhere. III. Easy to prepare: Buy Household BLEACH, read label to find out concentration. 1. From 2% BLEACH dilute down to 0.5% by mixing one part of BLEACH with three parts of water. 1 : 3. Use it as disinfecting solution or put this solution into spray bottle and it is ready to use (you must prepare fresh solution every day solution is losing strength with time). VI. Easy to use: To Clean and Disinfect in One Step: Spray surface thoroughly until completely wet. Allow 1-2 minute contact at room temperature to disinfect. Wipe clean with a damp sponge, cloth, or paper towel. No rinsing needed. Gross soil should be removed prior to cleaning and disinfecting. V. Cheap: Costco 3% BLEACH cost under $5 for 2 gallons. Disadvantage of BLEACH disinfectant: 1. You must make fresh solution every day (unless you are going to buy stabilized commercial BLEACH solution = increase cost). Glass Nail Files are ideal nail files to be used with BLEACH disinfectant. 1. Spray Glass Nail Files wet with 0.5% BLEACH solution, wait couple of minutes and dry them or rinse them under running water and use them. 2. Clean Glass Nail Files under running water with soap and soft tooth brush, put them into plastic container with 0.5% solution of BLEACH and keep them there until you need them (remove them from container, rinse them under running water and use them dry or wet). Glass Nail Files way of the future. Life Time Guarantee on Working Surface. http://www.glassnailfiles.com or http://www.crystalnailfiles.com Link: Glass Nail Files

CDC (Center for Disease Control and Prevention) does not recommend ALCOHOL for disinfections.
Alcohol is not recommended for disinfecting contaminated environmental surfaces because it evaporates quickly and does not allow sufficient contact time for effective action. http://www.cdc.gov/nccdphp/oh/disinfection
of non-porous surfaces such as stainless steel, plastic laminates, tile, porcelain and glass?
I. Powerful: Household Bleach in 0.55% concentration kills in: 1 minute:
Bacteria: Staphylococcus aureus, Salmonella choleraesuis, Pseudomonas aeruginosa.
Viruses: HIV (AIDS), Hepatitis A, B and C (Hepatitis C is a liver disease caused by the hepatitis C virus (HCV), which is found in the blood of persons who have this disease. The infection is spread by contact with the blood of an infected person. HCV may be transmitted by using razors, needles, toothbrushes, nail files, a barber's scissors, tattooing equipment, body piercing or acupuncture needles if contaminated by blood of an infected person - http://www.hepfi.org/Hepinfo/HCV.htm ), Herpes, Simplex, Poliovirus.
2 minutes: TB (Mycobacterium tuberculosis), Fungus.
2. From 3% BLEACH (Costco) dilute down to 0.5% mix 1 part of BLEACH with 5 parts of water. 1 : 5.
3. From 5% Bleach dilute down to 0.5% by mixing 1 part of BLEACH with 9 parts of water. 1 : 9.
You can also buy stable BLEACH solution in spray bottle such as; Dispatch Hospital Cleaner Disinfectant with BLEACH.
KILS HIV ON PRECLEANED ENVIRONMENTAL SURFACES/OBJECTS PREVIOSLY SOILED WITH BLOOD/BODY FLUIDS in health care settings or other settings in which there is an expected likelihood of soiling of inanimate surfaces/objects with blood or body fluids, and in which the surfaces/objects likely to be soiled with blood or body fluids can be associated with the potential for transmission of human immunodeficiency virus Type 1 (HIV-1, associated with AIDS).
With mixing ratio 1 : 5 (one part of BLEACH to 5 parts of water) you get 12 gallons of powerful disinfectant.
$5 : 12 gallons = $0.42 per gallon.
With cost (42 cents per gallon) for hospital strength disinfectant and few minutes you needed for disinfections, there is no excuse for not disinfecting everything in the Nail Care setting.
2. BLEACH should not be used for disinfections of low quality alloys rusting effect (BLEACH is strong oxidant).
