The earliest dickerson ancestor that I have found,Thomas Dickerson, was born about 1776 and his wife, Betsy, was born about 1793. In 1850 he was in the Harris Township, Franklin Co. NC. Frankin co. was formed from Bute co. in 1779(Bute was originally part of Granville. Co. but not in 1816)Franklin Co existed in 1816. I am looking before 1776 for Thomas Dickerson's father. I can't seem to find Dickersons or Leonard outside of North Carolina.
