Joyce..
I am very much interested in the Stone Family of Franklin County. My 4th great-grandparents were said to have been born, raised and had their families there. I came thru John Stone which is a very common name and many within the state of North Carolina. He was born in 1760...his parents I am not sure of as yet...but he married Sarah Walker of the Granville-Franklin area about the year 1780/81. I'm trying to find out who his parents are. I know that he had a son that he named William after a possible brother.
He also according to the 1850 Census of Moore County North Carolina had two son that were both 60 years of age. One was Samuel H. and the other was Lemuel W. Stone. Other listings in the LDS Family Search have them with seperate birthdays...William, their brother had a son he named Lemuel who eventually found his way to and died in Rusk Smith, Texas. William at the age of 74 years was living with a grandchild who last name was Van Meter. I'm sure it was the wife of Wilburt Van Meter whose name was listed as being called California Van Meter. William was listed as grandfather and as having the trade of a "cooper". They were listed as being in Putnam, Tn. but it could have been Putnam,Ga. Some scripts say William also was buried in Rusk Smith, Texas near his son, Lemuel. John Stone and Sarah also had a daughter named Elizabeth that married a Richardson Gill and a daughter named Anna that married Thomas Murray. I am hoping that within your knowledge of Franklin County or in your records you may have information on this line of Stones. I am trying to find out who the parents of John Stone were. I came thru Samuel H. Stone that married Priscilla Hight of Granville-Franklin Co., N.C.,. ...Any help would be much appreciated...please contact me by my posted e-mail; cheap_papa3000@yahoo.com Thank you so much..Bill Jones
