Has anyone ever actually seen their Mustang on the road (someone else driving) Posted by MustangSteve on 11/4/2009, 6:55 pm Forum Owner and Moderator Strange phenomenon... Most of us never see our Mustangs actually rolling down the road until the day we sell them. So, next time your car has let you down, or become a pain, or you are getting tired of it, find a friend to drive it along while you follow in another car. You will get to see the great stance you car has while in motion. You will get to hear what that expensive exhaust system (or lack of one, sal) sounds like from outside the car. You will be amazed at how well your creation looks in motion. After all, how often do you see a really nice classic Mustang on the road? It is a totally different perspective! Don't wait until some lucky buyer drives off with your car. Take the opportunity to see what it looks and sounds like. Comments? No, Mr. Tim, you are STILL not allowed to drive my Mustang! My wife especially likes to drive the 68 as well as her 05. One interesting time was when I watched her parallel park it while I stood on the sidewalk. Its nice to actually hear what your car sounds like when not in it. I often thought I'd like to change the exhaust system but hearing what it sounds like to others I changed my mind.  Post an Intelligent Response

When we got there I hopped out and my wife drove the car the rest of the way up, it sounded great, looked fairly good, but it was strange to see it drive away. This is a great post that gives a lot of really good perspective. Different story, but same concept of perspective, in the town where my wife grew up (Missoula 120 miles south of Kalispell) there is an underpass and one day when we were visiting my wife told me to role the windows down just before we got in the under pass and then punch it. THAT WAS THE MOST INCREDIBLE SOUND I HAVE EVER HERD A CAR MAKE!!! it was almost as if the sound was coming from inside me. if you ever get the chance to do something similar, don't pass it up. One of my co-workers wanted to drive it. So one day after the 6 o'clock news I let him drive it around the parking lot. When I bought the car a friend and I shared the driving with 2 cars and I just loved getting next to it, watching it roll down the road and listen to it. I have a Honda S2000 that is also pretty sharp to watch go down the road and the first time I saw my wife drive off with it I was thinking wow thats a really different perspective, that car really looks great in motion.  Post an Intelligent Response

He drove the old 'stang a weeks ago. Only problem is that I don't know who I would trust to perform such a deed. I've let a couple of race car drivers behind the wheel while I was in it but thats as far I've gone. My wife has no desire to drive it and that's prolly a good thing. I would love to hear it and watch it from a distance. I think the car scares people. But having said that I have also declined driving someone elses nice car even with them in it. I don't want to be responsible for dents, dings, or a mechanical failure.  Post an Intelligent Response

It was a little rough when I bought it but I had the car repainted and had seats out of a wrecked Mustang that only had 5000 miles; still smelled new. That was a fun car. A week after I traded (BIG mistake) the car I saw it on the interstate. As the car passed me I saw the woman driving the car with a cigarette and a cup of coffee in one hand. I always kept it spotless and seeing that made me cringe… I saw the car a year later, a young girl then owned it, this was a different owner than the woman who got it after me. Her grandfather had repainted the car again she said because the car "had scratches all over it." She let me look inside and AHHHH!!! The interior that was like new a year ago now looked like someone had dumped about five gallons of oil and coffee all over it. Made me sick to see the car I had put so much work in trashed so soon… That's one reason I keep holding on to the '70 I have now. It's a nice car and I would hate to see it go down the tubes in someone else's hands... Kenny B.  Post an Intelligent Response

Have gathered tools - welder, air compressor, door braces, etc. The next step would be to get the car over to a local shop with a frame jig, just so I can make sure that everything starts off straight. It would be quite a shame if it were off by a lot, but the shop that has the equipment says they doubt that it would be anything unfixable, even if it were off. Once I have confirmed the car is straight, then it goes up on the jack stands, with door braces installed, and will schedule a four hour session with a certified welder, just to make sure I am doing everything right. I plan on going from the poorly installed aprons, backward to the improperly installed floorboards and torque boxes, to the rusted out outer rockers that were sandblasted, but just left on there. And there is plenty left to do after that. But hey, I am not bitter.  Post an Intelligent Response
