- T5 neutral noise
Posted by Chris66 on 11/3/2009, 10:57 pm 67.159.138.222|
I have installed a T-5 tranny in my 66 mustang. It runs through all gears and shifts great with Steve's cable clutch. My concern is that in neutral when the clutch is left out there is a lot of noise comming from the tranny. It sounds like gears are rotating and making a noise like a light knocking. When the clutch is pushed in the noise slowly slows down and then stops. Is this normal or did I do something wrong during installation? Any help is much appreciated.

The noise is completely normal. Every T-5 I have ever used makes some noise in nuetral with the car idling, almost sounds like a slight rod knock

Steve and Mike are on the money. For peace of mind after 1000 miles do a fluid change and make sure there is no "Glitter" in the fluid indicating that the mainshaft tip could be going south or other issues. Welcome to the OD club.
