- The sky is cryin'. Sold my F 100 :(

My buddy came and got it today. I lost my butt but I think I did OK considering the economy. I miss it already. The T5 in my DD is a mess so I need to figure out what I;m gonna do. I know I need a more dependable modern safer truck than the unibody so I can do sidework and drive on the highway. I figure a 1978 F 150 should fit the bill. Who's got one?

when I saw that tailgate comment. I don't like/understand the mod motors. I'd stick with the 4.9/302s anyway. 92 and up is another "plan" (like i have a plan) I dunno yet. I need a good DD or two almost DDs the uni was just too archaic

- I've been looking

Mostly I've been watching Craigslist. I've just about decided to get one down South so it won't be all rusty. The problem with that is the distance. I don't want to buy without looking it over. Still deciding if I want 4X4. I need a project, so not too concerned about the mechanical condition. Then again I'd like to drive it home....After typing this I guess I don't really know what the heck I want.
I can take anything apart.

Im with MustangSteve on that one. You can pick up a 97-00 for $5500 around here with 4x4. They have anywhere from 120k to 150k. If they have been taken care of you really dont have to do much with them except general maintenace and drive them. Id steer away from the 78 Ford for a daily driver. My buddy did that for his work vehical a few years back. He was stranded a few times and he was constantly replacing and fixing something. I think the biggest thing was the steering box. He had a hard time finding one for a 78. Steve69

You can find steering boxes for a 2wd 78 at any auto part store and you can also buy nice ones online from the good rebuilders. You can also get 4wd boxes from any good bronco supplier. The box is so simple, I built a couple of tools and rebuilt mine myself. Get a shop manual and go to town. I drive my truck everyday and sometimes I drive it across Houston. No big deal.

- I have a 97 F150
Posted by 65james on 11/4/2009, 4:07 pm, in reply to "Re: Steve, I swear I just about stroked out " 74.254.174.98
It's a great truck. I've got 199,000 miles on it and it's never left me on the side of the road. It's got a 4.6 in it and I pull my camper without any problems. Very reliable.
It it was easy, anyone could do it.

- I prefer the pre egg shaped trucks

I understand the engines better 5.0, 4.9s are still plentiful and donor mills are every where I'd do a 92/96 I'm with loosenut though, I don't know what I want to do. I just know I am done with straight axles. I just know I need a truck for sidework/backup. I'd love to have one that would make it to my dad's in Traverse City 5 hrs away. My stang is still to project-y. I am tempted to sell it and parlay the cash into a better modern truck. Or buy a beater truck and sell the stang and get a better DD car, Or ... Ill figure it out eventually.

- I got a 97' f-150 and love it
Posted by matts67coupe on 11/4/2009, 10:15 pm, in reply to "Should of traded it in" 216.211.177.14|
It has had a few small problems. The odometer has gone out so I don't know how many miles it has but I would guess it's 130-155,000 miles. The 4.6 has always done me good though. Plenty of power and souds good with my flowmaster 3 inch exhaust. Also a valve got stuck in the tranny so it shifted wierd for a while but got that fixed, but those are the only real problems.
