- 4 to 5 lug swap
Posted by Clay Smith on 10/21/2009, 8:21 am 173.16.49.113|
I have a 66 mustang with a 200 6 cyl. all factory. I am wanting to change the rear axles out so they are five lug. Wondering what axle will fit in my rear end. It is stock and not an 8" or a 9" it's small and rear loading. Any help would be appreciated.

Clay Best bet is to locate a complete 5 lug rear from a 65 or 66 as it bolts up fine. There are other years that fit and i suggest you do a search of the archives here. Others more knowledgeable will also add posts with additional info. Why are you wanting to swap? If it's because you are converting to a V-8, you must upgrade your front suspension as well. If you reply, update your post describing your complete upgrade intentions and where you are located. Hope this helps.

my goal is to upgrade the brake system with power brakes and front disc brakes. also to open up more wheel options. No V-8 at this time. I live in Oak Grove, KY. Thanks again
