    Our original 66 unit has an adjustable bolt/stud that

    is adjusted down into the carpet and against the trans hump to keep the AC unit from jumping around. If it is just hanging from the bottom of the dash it will want to bounce up and down a lot. The stud damps that out but, yes, it will poke a hole through the carpet.

    I put a little aluminum plate under the stud and tightened it down against that.

    OBTW, tightening that stud down is a PITA after the unit is bolted in place but it has to be done in that order, I think. You can install the AC and then the carpet later but it'll be tight. Adjust the stud down after carpet is in place.

    Also, the unit is centered. The little FORD emblem is dead center under the ashtray.
