For option #1, I'd think about swapping in a '67 valve body while it's apart to get away from the dual range "green dot" setup. Your use sounds like mine, though I haven't made it to s strip yet. Learning to become at least consciously incompetent at open track a couple of times a year has been easier with the C4; never thought I'd admit that, having learned to drive in big block '63 Ford with a 4 speed. But the reply from MustangSteve sure sounds compelling.
