Alrighty guys,
I've watched my dvds. For now I'm going to keep the c4 and rebuild it. I think this is something I can handle. I'm planning on pulling my transmission this weekend. I'm not in a hurry so I'm going to do a little at a time, again starting with just yanking the thing out. I also believe I have the older model of C4 ('73) so it seems that it is the beefier until to have. A nice bonus. Maybe at some point in the future I'll switch to a manual. Anyway, as usual I have some questions.
1.
I'm going to leave the motor in the car. Should I support the motor some how to keep it from tipping one way or the other when I pull the transmission?
2.
Shift kits. I've been reading about them. Do they basically do the same thing, meaning do they just shift harder? Can someone dumb down what they do for me?
3.
Poor man's shift kit. In my dvd they mention I can have a poor mans shift kit by removing the hockey puck/rubber thing in the transmission. Is that a preferred method or is a shift kit a better idea?
4.
Any thing special I should remember or any tips for removing the transmission? I think I have the process down but I've not done it before so any suggestions/tips are appreciated.
5.
After I rebuild then transmission, should I paint it? I was thinking a spray would be a nice finish.
6.
I don't have a kick down currently. My headers got in the way. I'm thinking of modifying my stock kick down to work, but I'm not sure how it works exactly so I was also thinking I could get the Lokar kick down set up. Suggestions there? I'm thinking a modified stock set up would work just as well. Has anyone else had to deal with this? If so, how?
7.
Should I use parts cleaner for cleaning the internal parts? I usually use brake cleaner. I've always figured they were about the same but maybe not.
I know this is a lot of questions. I have lots to learn on this one but I'm confident I can do this. Thanks guys.
